University of Vienna wins SAMS Award with Matrix42
University of Vienna introduces central management system
Together with Matrix42 and system integrator TAP.DE, the University of Vienna has merged the heterogeneous IT environments of 421 institutions into a central management system. A centralized and digitized procurement process was implemented for all facilities. Up to 150 formerly paper-based orders per day are processed digitally via a self-service portal; since the system went live in January 2015, a total of more than 33,000 orders or 81,000 bookings have been processed. In addition, a daily updated, online-based reporting system has been introduced, which allows the current and historical development of license consumption, license requirements and rental costs per facility, user and device to be called up.
Eva Schadinger, team leader at the Central IT Service of the University of Vienna: "The complexity of the University of Vienna and the associated requirements that had to be implemented within the scope of the project were extremely challenging. It was therefore all the more pleasing to see how these could be implemented step by step with the standard tools of Matrix42 and the experience of our consulting partner TAP.DE. My team and I are rightly proud of our central SAM tool, which has been in use for three years now and provides the necessary transparency and compliance. In this context, I am particularly pleased to receive the SAMS Award 2018 and would like to thank all those involved, who have made a lot possible through their special commitment and inventiveness".

Michael Krause, Managing Director TAP.DE, adds: "The requirements of the University of Vienna were a great challenge for us, which we mastered with Matrix42 technology. The complexity and the high level of automation required innovative approaches and flexibility in implementation. The University of Vienna really deserves the SAMS Award. I congratulate Eva Schadinger and her entire team on this success".
Cloud employs Software Asset Manager 2018
"SAM will remain high on the agenda of IT managers in 2018. Mobile working and the cloud are bringing new demands to license management. In particular, applications such as Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud generate questions. These include how to optimize rental licenses and how to meet the licensing requirements of the underlying server systems," explains Nadia Bischof. For companies, it is of enormous importance to automate processes and use software licenses in a targeted manner. In this way, time and budgets can be invested in innovation projects, thereby strengthening competitiveness.
