Cost-Benefit-Analysis: Business Case 2006
Medium-Term Saving Effects
On a medium term – i.e., in a time interval of 4 to 8 months since the implementation – visible flexibility effects are already obvious. This relates to, for instance, the way software acquisition and distribution takes place throughout the entire company, with the complete automation and standardization of the installation processes clearly faster than before (see the Time Savings diagram).
A working process definition, and a level of automation that is as high as possible, serve as a foundation for user productivity in the PC/Server environment. The management of the PC infrastructure should be perceived here as a company-critical task. In each larger organization, there are daily system failures. The damage caused can be very serious.
Thus, when analyzing the medium-term saving effects, the main focus is on such factors as time saved during software installation and efficiency when restoring end devices administered with Empirum. This is why it is important to understand that Empirum as an IT Lifecycle Solution represents an integrated offering. The saving potential thus also occurs when integrating Empirum into existing systems, such as those used for the helpdesk.
The quicker and more efficient supplying of users with their required IT resources – e.g., software applications or drivers – has an effect in terms of increased user productivity and a reduction in support calls.
Based on the survey of our customers, these important advantages turn Empirum into a powerful, versatile and efficient solution for PC and server administration.
Quick Implementation of New Systems
Administrators can easily and quickly install new hardware with Empirum. And, it is irrelevant whether it is one system or thousands of systems. The result is a reduction in the costs, the complexity and the time effort required for the distribution and installation of applications and operating systems, which are evaluated by 75% of the matrix42 customers as ranging between 16% and more than 75%.
Another interesting aspect is that 64% of the surveyed companies used images before Empirum, and that with Empirum, a more effect ive implementation of new hardware became possible. This is especial ly due to the hardware-independent functioning of the matrix42 solution. New hardware can be commissioned without having to update images.
Migration of Operating System and User Profile
Migration intentions are critical interventions in the working IT environment of a company. Each in-depth intervention has to be thought and planned thoroughly, and has to be performed with out interrupting the business processes.
The relationship between each of the Empirum Management Suite software products plays an outstanding part here. Business Continuity does not only mean a technically functioning system, but also how well it allows the continuing work of the end user in his accustomed environment.
Here lies a crucial challenge for software migration for various operating systems and program versions. For instance, the transfer of Office 2000 options to another client with Office 2000 only means to copy a few registry keys and files. The copying of the “old” registry settings to a system with Office XP or 2003 means that the migration software has to understand and to apply the options accordingly. The 100 companies surveyed were able to simplify the planning in the projects they completed with the help of Empirum, and were also able to strongly optimize the actual rollout process.
Thus, 76% of the surveyed companies needed only between one and five months for a complete migration project with the matrix42 solution.
