matrix42 Named To Niche Players Quadrant of PC Lifecycle Management Market by Business IT Analysts

matrix42 Recognized as “Rising Star” In The Enterprise Management Associates Inaugural “EMA All Stars” Report

14 Apr 2008

ATLANTA, GA – April 9, 2008 – matrix42, developer of Empirum, a leading solution for IT Lifecycle Management, today announced its inclusion in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for PC Lifecycle Management 2007. The company also announced it has been named a “Rising Star” by Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) in its report naming “The EMA™ All-Stars™ in Enterprise Systems Management for 2008.”

“We are honored to have the evaluation and recognition in the recent market analysis of Gartner and EMA, and to be named a rising competitor in the US market,” said Richard Ashe, vice president of marketing, matrix42 USA. “The company has a reputation for delivering the best tools for PC life cycle management—from inventory tracking and software distribution to configuration management, end-point security and licensing compliance. We recognize that IT lifecycle management is a critical business strategy for every CIO—no matter what size of business or industry. Empirum will continue to provide product value and ease of use, and deliver IT power to keep a mid-size company on course to make the bottom line.”

matrix42 is positioned in the Niche Quadrant of Gartner, Inc.’s PC Life Cycle Configuration Management Magic Quadrant.(1) According to the report, Gartner identifies products in the PC life cycle configuration management market as those used to lower the total cost of managing client systems, to reduce the risks they pose to the business for security — malicious software (malware) prevention — and compliance (internal or regulatory guidelines), and to provide better quality of service to end users. Minimum product requirements for the Magic Quadrant include Inventory/discovery, Software distribution, Patch management and OS deployment.

EMA’s “All Star” report highlights what it considers to be the best available software solutions in 18 specific enterprise systems management disciplines, in order to form a ‘Systems Management All-Star’ team. Three categories of solutions were identified in each discipline: All-Star First Team (a special honor for the ‘best of the best’), All-Stars (the best performers in systems management) and Rising Stars (the best new or innovative vendors with the potential to be on a future All-Star Team).

Each solution earned its selection for the EMA All-Stars Team based on a mix of objective and subjective criteria, including:

  • Strength of product offering, functionality, and platform support
  • Commitment to product vision and delivering innovation
  • Customer feedback including satisfaction and market penetration
  • EMA's perspective from independent evaluations of expert analysts

“Founded in 1992, matrix42 is hardly a new vendor in the this space. However, with the latest release in its Empirum PRO Suite (containing Software Management, Inventory, OS Installer and Personal Backup solutions), and its recent partnership with Thinstall/VMware for application virtualization, it is starting to show innovations that could see it evolving into serious competition for both the pure-play and large-suite provisioning vendors. According to EMA’s research, it does not have a very large penetration in the U.S. market – although it is much more popular in Europe, where it is headquartered. However, the customers that do have it rate matrix42 very highly for customer satisfaction. According to their own internal data, 97.4% of matrix42 customers surveyed would choose Empirum again, and this very high satisfaction is reflected by EMA’s own research. While U.S. market share is an uphill battle against incumbents, EMA can see matrix42 swimming upstream to beat the established vendors.”
