CeBIT 2008: matrix42 and update4u certify their interfaces

Neu-Isenburg, February 14, 2008 - On the occasion of the CeBIT 2008, matrix42 AG and update4u Software AG take the next step in their partnership: the two vendors certify the interfaces between their product lines, ensuring the seamless integration of their products. The overall solution increases IT's quality and transparency, accelerates IT service provisioning and reduces IT cost through the full automation of processes. 

The overall solution is the answer to customers’ strong demand for a holistic IT management solution that allows them to align IT services with business requirements and automate the service provision as much as possible. While the Empirum products by matrix42 ensure the automation of the administrative and technical IT processes, Update4u’s software suite adds the automation of organizational and business processes within IT service management.

The seamlessly integrated solutions of both vendors provide consistent transparency of planned and actual conditions to ensure compliance with legal regulations and are a prerequisite for metrics-oriented, highly automated and thus cost-minimized IT operations; this has, for example, been a long-standing practice in the manufacturing industry, where the implementation of production planning and controlling systems has reduced costs significantly, while increasing the quality.

Solution Examples:

Service Catalog
The integration of both products provides the first IT management solution that seamlessly automates IT service provision, from the user’s request to the actual provision. For instance, the solution allows end-users to use the software catalog to make an online request for software products or authorizations; after completing a configurable approval process, installation is performed fully automatically – without any help by the system administrator or the service team.

Helpdesk
Another integration example is the control of software and operating system distribution via the helpdesk interfaces. For instance, software can be assigned without any technical know-how or administrative rights – directly during call answering and forwarding, including documentation and automatic history. The service staff may also reset passwords directly from the helpdesk, without requiring technical know-how or administrative rights. On the next day, everybody knows which team member has performed which activities. Of course, remote control functionality is also available in the helpdesk interface.

License Management
Integrating inventory data with license management ensures the automatic consolidation, interpretation and evaluation of data, based on licensing terms. With a mouse-click, the license balance sheet documents variations between licensing requirements and commercially purchased licenses - providing a transparent view of over- or sublicensing conditions, thanks to a reference database, which serves as link between the technical and business world and contains more than 90 million licensing variants.

Asset Management
The asset management functionality of the overall solution is more than just a CMDB. Technical inventory data are automatically linked to data from Microsoft Active Directory and also business or organizational data. For instance, helpdesk staff may use consistent drill-down functions to achieve full transparency of the equipment of a particular workstation directly via the helpdesk interfaces, from technical components such as hard disks, information on the user and related accounting cost to organizational information on the user’s areas of responsibility or location.
